This catalog was prepared by The Warren County Historical Society and Sue Studebaker in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name which took place from May 15 through July 3, 1988. For many years, Ohio samplers were usually described as "rare mid-western needlework" when they came to auction. Although still considered uncommon, more than 100 Ohio stitched schoolgirl embroideries have surfaced and been documented. This survey is the first effort to discover what schoolgirls in Ohio were creating with their needles and thread during the first half century of Ohio's history. Each of the 56 entries in the catalog is accompanied by a photo and history of the piece.
