The Point of the Needle is more than the catalogue to an exhibition at the Dorset County Museum. Spanning five centuries, with over 80 samplers and embroideries illustrated in colour, it also provides an opportunity to enjoy needlework that has rarely, if ever, been shown in public before. The pieces range from a Jacobean night cap to a beaded tea cosy, from silk panels to beautifully worked samplers evoking the changing character of rural England. The museum's own collection has been augmented by loans from private collections, including an important eighteenth century needle painting panel from Her Majesty The Queen.
